LAKE ERIE SPEEDWAY MOVES FORWARD WITHOUT LATE MODELS FOR THE 2013 SEASON

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

LAKE ERIE SPEEDWAY MOVES FORWARD WITHOUT LATE MODELS FOR THE 2013 SEASON

Erie, Pa (December 14, 2012) - Lake Erie Speedway management has announced that the Late Model division will not be included as a weekly race division for the entire 2013 Season.  Management will continue to monitor and evaluate the Late Model situation to determine if the division will be reinstated at any time after the 2013 Season.  Plyler Overhead Door Co., which has been the Late Model division sponsor for more than a decade will transition to become title sponsor of the Modified division.

Branden Kaczay, Lake Erie Speedway’s Executive Vice President-Business Operations, stated, “This is a decision that we had to make at this time based on our research into the current condition of asphalt Late Model racing, not just in the region, but across the country.  After speaking with several other speedway promoters and industry officials, we found that asphalt Late Model racing is struggling all across the country and not just at Lake Erie Speedway.”

By removing the Late Model division from weekly competition for the 2013 Season, Lake Erie Speedway management will be able to focus more time and resources on the racing product and competitors in each of the five remaining race divisions, which will include the Plyler Overhead Door Modifieds, Street Stocks, Jensens Target Collision Compacts, Legends, and Bandoleros.  Fans will still be treated to the same high level of competition and racing entertainment that only Lake Erie Speedway can provide as enhancements will be made to the weekly racing schedule for the 2013 Season.

Kaczay said, “Suspending the Late Model division for the 2013 Season is in the best interest of our fans and with great consideration into the well being of our competitors in the remaining five race divisions. This is a great opportunity for Lake Erie Speedway to focus on the positives now and well into the future.”

Lake Erie Speedway will release more information regarding the 2013 Season in the coming weeks.
