We are pleased to introduce our 2020 Walk Chair Family, Kari and John Nygaard, with their children, Michael, Jack, and Abby.

The Nygaard family is honored to serve as the 2020 Walk Chair family for the Autism Society Northwestern Pennsylvania’s annual Walk for Autism on April 25, 2020. Our family moved to Erie in July of 2016 with few support mechanisms in place to help with our two sons, Michael and Jack, both of whom have autism. That is when we discovered the Autism Society Northwestern Pennsylvania. We had belonged to autism support groups in the past, but over the period of only a few months, we discovered just how supportive the Autism Society is, and has been, for our family. They’ve been able to recommend various services, provide names and contacts of individuals that can help with specific challenges, and they’ve provided dozens of events, most of which are free or offered at a major discount. We can participate in these events as an entire family, with accommodations made for our sons to help ensure a stress-free and enjoyable experience. They have also provided friendship, camaraderie, and a supportive environment that has dramatically improved our quality of life since moving to Erie. Simply put, the Autism Society Northwestern Pennsylvania has been an invaluable organization for our family. We’re honored to serve with them and their mission of assisting families in navigating the world of autism!

-Kari, John, Michael, Jack and Abby Nygaard

Our two-mile Walk is held to increase awareness of autism, fund projects, and activities for individuals with autism in our community.
